Recently the Nature Center received an exciting check in the mail. It wasn’t a large amount ($5.47 to be exact), but it was a product of the efforts of some of our loyal members.

GoodSearch is a Yahoo-powered search engine that donates 50% of its profits to charity. That ends up being about a penny for each time someone searches in the name of their charity.

How does it work? It’s easy! Go to GoodSearch.com, and enter “Indian Creek Nature Center” as the charity of your choice. Each time you return to GoodSearch and use the search engine to find something online, a one-cent donation is made to ICNC. (If you want to get really fancy, add the GoodSearch toolbar to your web browser!)

And that’s it. No cost to you, no extra effort. Easy!

So what do you say? Can we break $6.oo next year?

By the look of our downstairs, you probably wouldn’t think that we’re making progress. The walls have been removed, the floor can’t be walked on, and the only bathroom on site, temporarily, is the port-o-john.

So why are we so happy here at Indian Creek Nature Center?

Well, for starters, we’re still upstairs, which means that everything going on downstairs can happen and we can still do our office work and receive visitors.

Secondly, we’re making progress! The wall removal happened so more insulation could be put in, and we can’t walk on the floor because it is getting a fancy new coat of finish that will make it wonderfully easy to clean!

So sure, things look a little more torn up than usual, but it only means that we’re back on track!

I’ve been a little behind on tell you about the news that the Nature Center has been making (all of the following articles have been published in the Gazette:

Late last month, Rich was interviewed about the bumper crop of acorns this year. Click here to read the article.

In this weeks article about the Rockwell Collins grants for flood recovery (the Cedar Rapids company has give more than $600,000 locally), Indian Creek Nature Center made the list, with the $5,000 grant we received for building restoration. Click here to read the article, and to see who else made the list.

Today, the Gazette broke the news that we have indeed raised the funds to purchase a nearby woods, a goal we have been striving to meet for about a year now. The article isn’t online yet, but pick up a copy to read it for yourself!
