Honey is one very sweet reason to love bees. Can you think of others?
Come out to Indian Creek Nature Center on Sunday, September 20 from 1 to 4 PM for our annual Honey Fest! There will be games, crafts, music and things to learn for all ages. (And, of course, lots of honey!) One of our beekeepers will even wear a beard of live bees!
For entrance fee information, check out the program calendar by clicking here. You can also contact us via email or phone.
Well, Honey Fest went off without a hitch! We had about 500 people turn out, and a great time was had by all!
Soon (I hope), I will be able to snag someone who took pictures (of kids making candles, of the bee beard, of the complete sell out of honey…) so I can put them up here.
So, Honey Month is finally over. We have taken to “buttoning up the bees” at night (that’s what Bob calls it, but he also told me that the bees wear little sweaters and booties, so I’m not sure that I trust him). October has turned chilly on us–but not chilly enough to keep us off the trails. The flora is turning, the fauna is preparing for a long winter, and we’re trucking right along.
Speaking of trucking along: our flood recovery efforts have took a turn for the better. I don’t have full details as of right now, but check back soon. Great things are going to be happening around the center!
We’re fast approaching our biggest event for Autumn: Honey Fest! Come out and support the Nature Center, but more importantly, the bees! The festival is this Sunday, September 21 from 1 to 4 PM.
This year’s Honey Fest will include:
-Demonstration stations manned by our volunteer beekeepers. (See previous postings for The Importance of Pollination talk.) See one of our beekeepers wear a beard of bees!
-Fun games and crafts for the kids. These include beeswax candlemaking and a scavenger hunt. The reward for each completed hunt is a tasty prize!
-Special honey ice cream provided by Haagen Dazs, with bee pollinated toppings! (Yummy stuff like fruit, not like avocado.)
-An awesome bake sale with goods made with honey!
-You also may see some prominent Nature Center staff dressed up in bee costumes.
…and more!
We’ll see you there!
